Animals Found Frozen In Ice

Winter has arrived to one part or another of the world. If it’s not freezing in the northern countries, its freezing in the southern ones. There’s Snow and Ice on every street, blizzards every 10 seconds and animals that wander the freezing wastes that don’t fear blizzards or people. Nature can be and very often is terrifying, really really terrifying and if watching wildlife documentaries has taught us anything it’s that nature always gets what it wants, even if its you, frozen. BUT! If you absolutely have to go outside for any reason and if you’re the kind of person that takes advice from strangers on the internet, take this sage’s advice: Don’t stay out for long, you could become a popsicle. Don’t believe me? Think you’re a survivalist? So did these poor souls, frozen animals found in unbelievable places.

10 A Fishy Situation

Nature can be terrifying, yet, artful at the same time; natural phenomena can do amazing things with ice as it melts away by the sun. and how does that affect animals in general? looking at how things can all of a sudden get frozen fast, makes animals look like a piece of art that also serves as a menu for a quirky restaurant. Schools of fish, although accustomed to the water temperature variations can still fail to remember that they can also become popsicles. This weird yet wonderful display of a school of fish appear to be suspended mid-swim in this thick wall of ice and snow.  According to those present at the fishy-wall, the reason that such a strange act of nature occurred was because of the relationship between the sun, the ice and the water that the fish were occupying. As the thick snow and ice layered themselves over the water’s surface, the heat and light of the sun would dim, eventually blocking out completely, dropping the temperature and oxygen from the water. This would result in the fish Asphyxiating and floating to top of the water before freezing and the weird arty display of suffocated fish came after.

9 The Cave-Lion

Imagine being tucked in for several thousand years. That’s no cat nap. But there was a cat who did stay in for that long.  This particular feline is said to have been buried up for over 50,000 years, now that’s an awful long nap, even for a cat as big as this one. The scientists responsible for discovering this preserved extra-large pussy cat, explain how it has lasted so long is because of what ’s called Permafrost, where the layer of ground that was covering the lion’s body was in permanent state of freezing, meaning that the lion was it was never going to thaw.

The remains of this Cave Lion were found frozen solid in Siberia in 2017 and its discovery, like most discoveries has kindled the flames of discourse. This discourse this time revolves around whether it’s possible to clone this long dead cat, some believe it’s possible thanks to research done of mice, but that mouse was frozen for less than 2 decades, this cat has been frozen for much, much longer.

8 Alligator On The Rocks

Oh Snap it’s an Alligator on the rocks. And I don’t mean sunning pleasantly in the Florida beaches. Well, not really. These Alligators unlike the rest of the frozeniers mentioned, in reality they played it all to survive. These Alligators found in a swamp park in Ocean Isle Beach, north carolina USA had the tips of their mouths poking out of the surface of the frozen water. Why did they do this? They did it to survive the cold, knowing somehow that the water would freeze and protecting themselves by being able to breathe through their snouts once the water froze above them. It’s pretty clever stuff. Scientists have no idea where they learnt the technique though.

7 Real Dragons?

7_dragon

What’s scarier than seeing a frozen animal in mid action? Perhaps a bear or a frozen shark in the water? It’s a Dragon, the answer’s a Dragon; not a real one though, unfortunately. Yes, this Dragon is a prop, a terrifying prop. The photo of the “Frozen Dragon” comes from the set of ‘The Last Dragon: A Fantasy Made Real” a mediocre science-fantasy movie from the early 2000s. There’s not much more to the story than that, except the fact that the internet for a while genuinely believed it was a real Dragon because the movie had not been released yet and evidence was lacking to disprove it. Looking back now, with all of the other TV shows and movies that have included frozen Dragons its surprising that this was ever believed to be real.

6 Frozen Foxxy

If there’s a technology that desperately need creating it’s the ability to communicate with animals. If this technology existed, the first thing I’d suggest is teaching foxes to not go near cold water. They really don’t learn this particular lesson, cold water will turn into frozen water, get away from it fast! This fox, found in Danube Germany, apparently tried to cross the waters 4 days prior to being made into an icy surprise for those that were nearby the southern German river. The fox wasn’t cut out and laid to rest, nor was it cooked up and made into a meal for the survivalist types, instead it was made into an attraction outside of the Fridingen Hotel. Now that’s just cruel.

5 The Minnesota Iceman

Could Minnesota, USA have besides snow in the winter, a unique animal frozen in time? Meet “The missing link”  The Minnesota Iceman. A legend, a myth, a cryptid. This Fossil is said to have been discovered in Siberia and then shown from town to town all across the great USA during the 1960s and 1970s as part of freak shows and carnivals.

Not much else is known about this strange ancient discovery besides the how it was advertised to the public. From promotional images such as the one on screen now, there’s much speculation as to the authenticity of this ‘Living Fossil’. And why from Minnesota? There are many unanswered questions including, what this male humanoid is?.

It definitely looks like a Neanderthal, one of man’s oldest relatives, but some aren’t sure. There is debate as to whether the Iceman is a bigfoot, a yeti, or if it’s even real at all. What do you think? Do you think it’s more proof of humanity’s time in the long-ago or do you think it’s just another hoax by those that want their fifteen minutes of fame?

4 The Russian Mammoth

The Ice Age is said to happened millions and millions of years ago right? You’d imagine that by now due to technological advancements as well as our specie’s curiosity for finding things that most things that had lived and died in the Ice Age would have been found, tagged and put in a lab for testing or at a museum for ogling. But no, this is not the case at all, it appears that even now, we’re still discovering relics of that long-long ago age as recently as 2013. This is a woolly mammoth that is said to have been discovered completely preserved in ice. Although nothing new, as mammoths have been found before, this ancient elephant, Russian scientists claim, still has muscle tissue and fully flowing blood, perfectly preserved.  This discovery will help scientists understand more about mammoths as well as in the future potentially using the blood to help bring one to life using cloning. Sounds exciting.

3 The Unlucky Fox

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Scandinavia, perhaps colorful buildings, crystal clear rives contrasted by mountain peaks while the northern lights magnify the skies and the animals roam freely. This sounds very romantic, until winter comes along… the harsh colder temperature not only will make any human go inside but animals should take notes too.   one particular animal forgot to listen and became an unlucky Foxsicle. Foxes are common in Sweden. This one was found in taking a dip in a nearby lake. From the photos of its discovery the poor fox looks like it had completely forgotten that it’s no longer summertime and that it’s probably not a great idea to going swimming in freezing cold waters. A strange as this event might sound to those in the warmer climates, this is not the first time that an animal has been ice-cubed in the Scandinavian countries, it’s quite a common thing apparently. On top of just foxes, locals have found fish frozen in place as well as a moose trapped within ice because of the less than pleasant temperatures that the regions can produce.

Japanese people are weird.  There are many things that only happen in japan, like vending machines that sell anything from frozen duck to silk ties, extremely expensive fruits that are modified to look like candy. But how far is too far?  From nature to business, this ice aquarium located in Kesennuma, northeastern Japan, took the idea of preservation and education slightly too far. Hosting over 450 specimens of marine life within super large blocks of thick ice, these creatures which include crabs, fish and even octopuses, are all preserved within realistic lifelike positions. It’s just like being in the ocean with them. For those wondering how this was actually pulled-off, the Ice Aquarium uses what’s called flash-freezing technology, in order to keep the fish at the right temperature for their display, yet warm enough to not freeze visitors.

1 The Wolf Amongst Ice

Finally there is the Wolf’s head found surprise-surprise in Siberia, the unoffical home of finding weird stuff in the ice apparently. We say Wolf, the severed head that was discovered frozen in a lake in Siberia around 40,000 years ago is in fact much larger than your average wolf’s head. The head of this bigger wolf is considered to be perfectly preserved, having its fur, bone and its brain still intact. The plan for this Head has already been announced, the head will be plastered, a technique scientist says that will replace the water of replacing and fat of the head with plastics, this will prevent the head from decaying. As long as it’s not mounted on a wall after that then I think I’l be able to sleep at night.

So there you have it, interesting and incredible animals and things that been found frozen in the icy depths of lakes, glaciers and even movie sets.
